Hi! My name is Samantha and I am the voice & mastermind behind “Sugar Coated Squats”. I wanted to start the blog off by telling you a bit about myself.
I am 24. I live in a small-ish town in Washington State. I love health and fitness. I REALLY love food. I live with the love of my life, Ryan. We have two furbabies, a chocolate lab named Cocomo & a golden retriever named Luna. And I have always had a passion for writing….so here we are!
I grew up playing all sorts of sports. Everything from soccer to golf to softball to volleyball to track and even bowling. I got my first gym membership when I was 13. I would tag along with my parents, not really knowing what I was doing, but knowing I liked it.
Fast forward 4 years and I got a job working at a local gym. I was still super active but now I was surrounded by it. At this point in my life I was doing 3+ hours of cardio a day and some lifting here and there. I was teeny, but not in a healthy way.
Then about a year and a half later, I met Ryan. He got me to join his gym and my love for fitness started again, but this time I was surrounded by knowledge. The more I learned, the more passionate I became about this field. Eventually I went on to get a job at the gym and have been there for over 4 years now. I have done everything from opening at 4am to closing at midnight, sales, director of training, etc etc etc. I now hold the two titles of Personal Trainer & Online Marketing Manager (both of which I love).
At the time I started at the gym, I had my AAS Degree but was still trying to figure out the path I wanted to go with my four year degree. With my growing passion for health and fitness, it became clear to me. I went on to graduate from Arizona State University with my BS in Health Sciences and double minors in Exercise Science and Nutrition. I then got my nationally certified personal training certification through NCCPT. And the rest is history to be made….
I also love food. A lot. I love to cook and bake and try new things. I love experimenting with different flavors and recipes. I just really love food.
I also love to travel and explore and adventure my way through life. Whether it is 5 miles or 5000 miles, I want to see as much of the world as I can. Hiking and backpacking and running and road trips and flights and new cities, it lights a fire in me like I have never known before
I am currently in prep for my very first NPC Bikini Competition. I am 9 weeks out for the show which will be in Bend, Oregon. I am also 15 weeks out from my second show in Seattle, Washington. I will be sharing my journey with you as well along the way.
So sit down. Hold on tight. And thanks for coming along for the ride!
